Adriatic Conference of Serious Computer Users - an afterthought
On 9-10 March, Adriatic Conference of Serious Computer Users was held in Dubrovnik. CROZ served as the conference host in collaboration with companies Alcad, Slovenska Bistrica; SBS, Beograd; SRC.SI and S&T Slovenija, Ljubljana.
The conference gathered mainframe users from Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia and was oriented on real user experiences concerning more recent projects (SOA, Java, WebSphere, Linux, SAP, Oracle….) on the mainframe platform as well as on the position of the mainframe in a modern IT system.
Series of interesting presentations on the subject of real, living projects on the mainframe platform owned by regional leader companies (APIS-IT, FINA, Impol, Naftna industrija Srbije, Železnica Srbije) have proven how mainframe computers today the same as the last forty-five years successfully perform even the most demanding IT tasks.
Adriatic conference was an excellent opportunity to exchange user experiences and to talk about the problems users deal with in their daily work. Speaking of problems, one in particular - Making work on mainframe inviting for the “Facebook” generation – was in fact the theme of the roundtable, held among the representatives of APIS-IT and HZMO, Croatia; ZPIZ, Slovenia and NSZ, Serbia, who talked about their own experiences concerning employment and education of young mainframe experts.
This being the first regional conference of serious computer users so far, it should serve as an incentive to grow the idea of regional cooperation, experience exchange and mainframe user collaboration.
